Statement of Vetting, Monitoring Procedures & Safeguarding Compliance

Safeguarding Children & Safer Recruitment

Music Academy Midlands Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We ensure that all staff deployed in schools adhere to rigorous safeguarding standards, complying with all relevant UK legislation and guidance, including the Department for Education’s Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) and the Safer Recruitment Consortium’s guidelines.

Please find below a summary of the checks and procedures Music Academy Midlands Ltd conducts to ensure all staff are suitable to work in educational settings.

1. Identity Check

We verify each applicant’s identity through original official documents, such as a passport, driving licence, or birth certificate, combined with proof of address. Candidates are required to provide identity verification on arrival at the school, and schools are encouraged to perform an additional ID check.

2. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

An Enhanced DBS Disclosure is obtained for all staff working in regulated activity, which includes checks against the Police National Computer (PNC), local police records, and the lists held by the Disclosure and Barring Service. This ensures that all staff members are suitable to work with children. Where applicable, annual update checks are conducted for staff who remain with us over multiple academic years.

3. Children’s Barred List (List 99)

We perform a Children’s Barred List Check (List 99) on all applicants to ensure they are not prohibited from working with children. These checks are renewed annually.

4. Prohibition from Teaching Check

A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) Prohibition Check is carried out for all staff, ensuring they are not prohibited from teaching or conducting educational activities. This applies to both current and previous names.

5. Right to Work in the UK

We ensure that all staff have the right to work in the UK by verifying passports, visas, and any relevant documentation. This includes checks on foreign nationals and those who have spent time abroad.

6. Overseas Police Checks

For any staff who have lived or worked overseas, we conduct overseas police checks or obtain letters of good conduct to ensure there are no safeguarding concerns. This is in addition to their Enhanced DBS check.

7. Professional and Character References

We obtain at least two detailed references from previous employers, covering a minimum of five years. References are always checked to ensure they are genuine and come from verified sources.

8. Performance Monitoring and Feedback

Music Academy Midlands Ltd maintains a robust system for monitoring staff performance. Regular feedback is gathered from schools to ensure staff meet our high standards of conduct and professionalism. If any concerns are raised, they are addressed immediately.

9. Code of Conduct

All staff are trained in and expected to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct. They are made aware of the safeguarding policies, child protection guidelines, and expectations regarding behaviour in educational settings.
